Who is the founder of historical school? (a) Karl Von Savigny (b) Plato (c) Sir Henry Maine (d) Aristotle

Answer

(a) Karl Von Savigny

Karl Von Savigny (1779–1861), the German jurist, is regarded as the founder of the Historical School of Jurisprudence. He opposed the natural law and analytical schools, holding that law is not made but grows organically out of the customs, traditions and spirit of a people (Volksgeist). His work Vom Beruf unserer Zeit für Gesetzgebung und Rechtswissenschaft (1814) laid its foundation. Sir Henry Maine later developed the historical approach comparatively, but he is not its founder.
