Some say that parents should encourage their children to take part in organized group activities in their spare time. Others say that it is important for children to enjoy the activities they like individually. What do you think? Now, write an essay in about 300 words expressing your opinions.
Answer
Group Activities or Individual Interests for Children?
Parents often wonder how their children should use their spare time. Some believe that children should join organised group activities such as sports teams, scouts or music classes, while others think they should enjoy individual activities of their own choice. In my opinion, a balance of both is best, though I lean slightly towards children's own interests.
Group activities have clear benefits. When children play football or join a school club, they learn teamwork, discipline, leadership and how to deal with winning and losing. They make friends and develop confidence in speaking and cooperating with others. Organised activities also keep children busy under supervision, which keeps them away from harmful habits and from spending too many hours on mobile phones and games. They are especially useful for shy children, who learn to mix with others.
However, children are individuals, and each has his or her own talents and tastes. A child who loves reading, drawing, gardening or playing the guitar alone may feel unhappy if forced to join a team sport. Individual activities allow children to think independently, develop creativity and learn patience and self-reliance. When children enjoy what they do, they learn more and give their best. If parents impose their own wishes, children may lose interest and feel stressed or rebellious.
Therefore, parents should not choose one type and ignore the other. They should observe their children, discuss with them and encourage them to take part in at least one group activity, while allowing time to follow personal hobbies. For example, a boy who paints at home could also join a school art club or play a weekly game with friends.
In conclusion, group activities build social skills, and individual activities build personality and creativity. A wise parent guides but does not force, so that the child grows up as a confident, sociable and happy person.
