Suppose you are the General Manager of Udayapur Cement Factory. Issue a press release in about 300 words on behalf of the factory about the delay in the production of highest quality cement.

Answer

Press release

UDAYAPUR CEMENT FACTORY Jaljale, Udayapur

PRESS RELEASE For immediate release Date: 12 Baishakh, 2080

Delay in the production of highest quality cement

Udayapur Cement Factory wishes to inform its valued customers, dealers, contractors and the general public that the production of our highest quality cement has been delayed in the past few weeks. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

The delay has been caused by several unavoidable factors. First, the supply of limestone, our main raw material, was disturbed by heavy rain and landslides, which blocked the road from the quarry to the factory. Second, one of the main machines, the rotary kiln, developed a technical fault and needed urgent repair. Spare parts had to be imported and arrived late because of transport problems at the border. Third, there were interruptions in electricity supply, which affected the continuous production process. Finally, we have strictly refused to compromise on quality, and so we have rejected batches that did not pass our laboratory tests.

We would like to assure everyone that the factory management is doing everything possible to restore normal production. The kiln has been repaired and trial production has already begun. We have arranged alternative transport routes and a standby generator, and we have added extra workers and shifts to make up for lost time. We expect to supply cement in full quantity within the next two weeks.

We request our customers to be patient and not to buy from sources of doubtful quality in the meantime. We also advise dealers not to hoard the cement or raise its price artificially, and we will take action against those who do. Any construction project in urgent need may contact our marketing office directly for priority supply.

We thank all concerned for their understanding and continued trust in our products.

Suppose you are the General Manager of Dairy Development Corporation (DDC). Write a press release explaining with the clear reason for increasing the price of dairy products.

Answer

Press release

DAIRY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (DDC) Lazimpat, Kathmandu

PRESS RELEASE Date: 10 Shrawan, 2080

Price adjustment of dairy products

The Dairy Development Corporation wishes to inform all its consumers, dealers and the general public that the prices of milk and other dairy products will be increased by a small amount from 1 Bhadra, 2080. The new rates will be displayed at all our sales centres and on our website.

We understand that this decision will affect families, and it has not been made lightly. The increase has been unavoidable for the following reasons. First, the price of raw milk paid to farmers has to be raised because the cost of cattle feed, fodder, medicine and veterinary services has risen sharply; if farmers are not paid a fair price, they will leave dairy farming and the supply of milk will fall. Second, the cost of fuel, electricity, packaging materials such as plastic and cartons, and transport has increased considerably in the past year. Third, salaries and the cost of maintaining our machinery, cold storage and distribution network have also risen. Despite these pressures, the Corporation kept its prices unchanged for a long time and bore the loss, but it can no longer do so without harming the quality of its service.

We would like to assure our consumers that the quality, freshness and quantity of our products will not be reduced, and the increase will help us to continue collecting milk from thousands of farmers across the country. This will support rural livelihoods and ensure a regular supply of pure milk to the city.

We request all customers to cooperate and we thank them for their trust over the years. Consumers who find any dealer selling at a price higher than the official one may complain to our office.

He usually ... (do/did/has done/does) his homework in his room. (Identify which verb form completes the sentence.)

The Principal along with other experts ............ (has/have/was/were) present at the meeting. (Rewrite the sentence using correct verb from the brackets.)

Answer

The Principal along with other experts was present at the meeting.

The phrase "along with other experts" does not change the subject; the verb agrees with the singular subject "The Principal". The past tense "was" fits the meeting that has already happened.

He and I ........... (is/are/has/have) well until now. (Choose appropriate verb and rewrite it filling in the blanks.)

Answer

He and I have been well until now.

The compound subject "He and I" is plural, so "have" is chosen (not is/are/has). With "until now" the present perfect is needed, so "have been" completes the sentence.
