Write a letter to the editor of a local newspaper complaining about the massive deforestation in your locality.
Answer
Kathmandu-10, Baneshwor 12 March 2025
The Editor The Daily Chronicle Kathmandu
Subject: Massive deforestation in our locality
Sir,
Through the esteemed columns of your newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the concerned authorities to the massive deforestation that is going on in our locality.
For the last few months, trees in the nearby community forest have been cut down illegally for timber, firewood and to make space for new buildings. Trucks carry logs away at night, and it seems that nobody stops them. As a result, the green hills that once surrounded us are turning bare.
The consequences are already visible. The temperature has risen, the water sources are drying up, and the soil is washed away during the monsoon, causing landslides and floods. Birds and wild animals are losing their homes, and the air is becoming dustier.
I therefore request the local government and the forest office to stop the illegal felling immediately, punish those involved and begin a plantation programme. The local people should also join in protecting the forest.
I hope you will publish this letter and help save our environment.
Yours faithfully, Anil Sharma

In recent days, a large number of youths have been migrating to foreign lands for employment. Write a letter to the editor of a national daily in about 180 words explaining what can be done to hold them in the native land.
Answer
Lalitpur-3, Kupondole 15 March 2025
The Editor The Himalayan Daily Kathmandu
Subject: Ways to hold the youth in the native land
Sir,
Through your newspaper, I would like to express my concern about the large number of young people leaving Nepal for foreign employment every day. Our villages are left with the old and the children, and the country loses its most energetic workforce.
Most youths leave because they cannot find jobs or fair pay at home. To stop this, the government should first create employment through support for agriculture, tourism, small industries and information technology. Loans with low interest and training should be given to young entrepreneurs so that they can start their own businesses.
Secondly, education should be made practical and skill-based, so that graduates can find work easily. Honest and effective governance is equally important, because corruption and political instability destroy the hope of the young.
Finally, the country should make better use of the skills and money brought back by returnees.
If we offer dignity, opportunity and a secure future, many youths will choose to stay and build their own country.
Yours faithfully, Sunita Thapa

You are Manjit Sharma, coordinator of your school literacy club. You are deeply concerned about adult illiteracy in slums and villages. On behalf of your club, write a letter in about 180 words to the editor of a national daily highlighting the causes and consequences of the issue.
Answer
Pokhara-8, Lakeside 18 March 2025
The Editor The Kantipur Daily Kathmandu
Subject: Adult illiteracy in slums and villages
Sir,
On behalf of our school literacy club, I want to draw the attention of your readers to the serious problem of adult illiteracy in slums and villages.
Several causes lie behind it. Poverty forces people to work for survival instead of attending classes. Many were never sent to school because of early marriage, gender discrimination or the long distance to the nearest school. Lack of awareness, few adult education programmes and weak government follow-up make the situation worse.
The consequences are serious. Illiterate adults cannot read a medicine label, sign their name or understand their rights. They are easily cheated, find it hard to get decent jobs and often pass poverty to their children. The development of the whole nation slows down.
We therefore request the authorities to run free literacy classes, and ask students and teachers to volunteer. Our club is ready to help.
Yours faithfully, Manjit Sharma Coordinator, School Literacy Club

You are concerned about the harmful effects of junk food on health, particularly among young people. You are also aware of your role as a student to reduce the consumption of unhealthy food and develop healthy eating habits. Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper in about 180 words expressing the role of youth in such a condition mentioned above.
Answer
Biratnagar-5, Main Road 20 March 2025
The Editor The Rising Nepal Kathmandu
Subject: Role of youth in reducing junk food consumption
Sir,
I wish to express, through your newspaper, my concern about the growing habit of eating junk food among young people. Burgers, chips, noodles and sugary drinks are cheap and tasty, but they are full of fat, salt, sugar and chemicals. They cause obesity, diabetes, heart problems and poor concentration.
As students, we have an important role to play. First, we should avoid buying junk food and choose fresh fruits, vegetables and home-cooked meals instead. Secondly, we can spread awareness among friends, family and classmates through campaigns, posters and speeches. We should also read the labels on packets and refuse harmful products.
Schools should ban junk food in canteens and offer healthy options. Parents can set an example by cooking nutritious meals.
If the youth decide to change their habits, a healthier generation can be built.
Yours faithfully, Rajan Karki

It is often said, 'Save nature to save the future'. Write a letter to the editor of a national newspaper about the effects of environmental pollution in about 180 words.
Answer
Dharan-7, Bazar Line 22 March 2025
The Editor The Kathmandu Post Kathmandu
Subject: Effects of environmental pollution
Sir,
It is often said, "Save nature to save the future". I would like to use your newspaper to remind people how much damage environmental pollution is doing to us.
Smoke from vehicles and factories has made the air of our cities unsafe to breathe. Rivers are polluted by waste and sewage, and plastic waste fills our streets and fields. Loud noise adds to the stress of daily life.
The effects are alarming. People suffer from asthma, skin diseases and stomach disorders. Climate change is melting glaciers, bringing erratic rain, floods and drought, and threatening plants and animals.
Everyone must take action. The government should enforce pollution laws, strengthen public transport and manage waste properly. Citizens should avoid plastic, plant trees and save energy.
If we protect nature today, nature will protect us tomorrow.
Yours faithfully, Sabina Rai
